What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a medical-grade skin rejuvenation procedure using a motorized pen that creates tiny, invisible puncture sites to stimulate collagen and elastin production.  As your skin responds to the stimulation, a series of treatments may improve the appearance of acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and skin texture in general. Products with growth factors or your own PRP (platelet-rich plasma) can be added on to stimulate more collagen with time for better results.

Who Should do Microneedling?

Microneedling is recommended for those who can commit to a series of treatments to improve concerns such as skin tone and texture, certain scars, and/or fine lines.  Safe for most skin types, Microneedling may also be an alternative option for certain Fitzpatrick skin types that may otherwise not be candidates for laser or IPL treatments.  Microneedling is not recommended for those with unavoidable regular, heavy sun exposure, those with a tendency to keloid, or pregnant/nursing women. Your eligibility for treatment will be determined during your complimentary consultation with one of our physicians.

What are the different types of Microneedling?

  • AnteAGE (growth factor serum) – Application of AnteAGE growth factor serum can also enhance results, speed up healing time, and is ideal for patients who are looking for an alternative to PRP microneedling.
  • Virtue RF (radio frequency) – A sophisticated treatment combining the effects of both microneedling and radio frequency, which provides heat to further stimulate collagen and tighten skin over time.
  • AnteAGE MDX (Exosome) – The most advanced form of Microneedling we offer. Topical application of exosomes send biosignals to your body’s cells that instruct them to naturally increase firmness, reduce redness, improve texture & tone, and decrease in general signs of aging.

FAQs

Depending on the treatment area, you will be booked for a 90 minute time slot for Microneedling. Prior to starting, our esthetician will assess your skin and discuss your goals and concerns.  A topical numbing cream will be applied beforehand in order to maximize your comfort level during treatment. You will experience gentle vibration and a possible mild, prickly sensation as the pen glides over the surface of your skin. 

***If you opt for Microneedling with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), one of our registered nurses will draw your blood prior to treatment.  Those opting for Microneedling with PRP are advised to drink a lot of water the night before and the day of treatment to increase the ease of the blood draw process.***

Microneedling at Reneux is very safe.  A complimentary consultation with one of our physicians is required prior to scheduling Microneedling to ensure it is the best treatment option for you.  Our experienced, licensed esthetician will perform your treatment with careful consideration to your skin type and will customize your treatment accordingly to effectively and safely treat your skin.  Furthermore, all of the providers at Reneux are extensively trained by our physicians to operate in accordance to safety and hygiene standards in a medical setting.

Results vary depending on the area and concern being treated.  You should see true changes from treatment approximately 1-2 weeks after, while some people may notice positive change sooner.  As effects from Microneedling are cumulative, a series of treatments is recommended for optimum results.

The length of time Microneedling results last after a series of treatment is completed varies but may last up to one year when combined with regular use of a recommended skin care regimen and minimal exposure to damaging environmental factors (e.g. sun).  However, because Microneedling produces results through the stimulation of collagen and elastin, it is helping to slow down the aging process by promoting new skin cells to surface which is a cumulative benefit of this treatment.

There are no known significant side effects to Microneedling when performed by an experienced esthetician and when post-treatment care instructions are followed.  Your skin may be sensitive and flushed immediately post treatment for up to 48 hours and may be drier than normal until your skin heals. Exposure to the sun without proper protection (e.g. regular application of sunscreen, hat, etc.) may cause darkening of treated areas.  Your esthetician will discuss post-treatment care and recommend products to aid in the healing process.
