Who Should do Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is generally suitable for all skin types, treatment areas, and hair types. Certain hair colors (e.g. white, gray, etc.) may not respond because results are produced based on the laser’s ability to detect pigment. Laser hair removal is not recommended for pregnant/nursing women, those with active cold sores and/or any active viral, fungal or bacterial diseases, or open wounds. What should I expect from Laser Hair Removal?

Depending on the area treated, laser hair removal treatment sessions range from 30 minutes to 1 hour. While each person’s sensitivity level differs, you may experience a sensation similar to a rubberband snapping on the skin throughout treatment. Most patients report feeling comfortable overall during treatments. You will also be required to wear eye shields/goggles to protect your eyes from the light emitted from the laser.

How safe is Laser Hair Removal?

How long until I see results from Laser Hair Removal?

After each treatment, you will notice varying levels of hair reduction. Hair grows in cycles and the laser is only able to effectively treat hair present in the active growing phase, which is why multiple treatments are needed. On average, it will take up to 2-4 weeks for the treated hair to surface and fall out after each treatment. For complete hair removal in the desired treatment area, a series of laser hair removal treatments is necessary. Depending on the area, hair type, volume of hair, and other factors, on average a series of at least 5 treatments is recommended.

How long do Laser Hair Removal results last?

Results vary, however once the recommended series of laser hair removal treatments is completed at the recommended intervals (typically 4-8 weeks), the hair in the treated area should be mostly reduced and regular treatments should not be necessary. Due to the nature of hair growth, most patients will require sporadic follow-up treatments to treat any remaining or new hair growth.

Are there any side effects of Laser Hair Removal?

It is common to experience redness, sensitivity, and possible mild swelling immediately post-treatment. These temporary effects should subside within less than 48 hours post-treatment. Additionally, though rare, other possible temporary side effects include crusting and/or changes in color of the treatment area. It is imperative to use sun protection and minimize sun exposure of treated area to prevent changes in color of the treatment area (e.g. darkening or lightening).
